Specialty Arabica Vietnam: Sourcing Guide to the Highlands

The specialty arabica Vietnam produces is a small, fast-improving niche inside the world's largest robusta origin. USDA's June 2026 forecast, reported by Daily Coffee News, puts arabica at about 1.1 million of Vietnam's 32.5 million bags for 2026/27, roughly 3% of the crop. Most of it grows on the Lam Dong highlands around Da Lat and Cau Dat, with smaller pockets in Son La, Dien Bien, Quang Tri and, recently, Gia Lai.

Robusta vs arabica is the first sourcing decision behind every blend, and in mid-October 2026 it was a financial one too: London robusta futures traded near USD 3,470 per tonne, about 157 ¢/lb, while New York arabica traded near 287 ¢/lb. Robusta costs roughly 55% of arabica on the futures screen, carries about twice the caffeine and brings more body and crema, but less acidity, sweetness and aroma.

Most of it is Catimor, washed, screened to 16 or 18 and sold as a clean, mild, competitively priced arabica for blends, capsules and roast-and-ground.
