Vietnam’s Coffee Exports Surge in 2025 USD 7.41 Billion in 10 Months, Surpassing All of 2024

Vietnam’s coffee exports continue to be the most significant highlight in the country’s agricultural export structure in 2025. According to newly released data, in just the first 10 months of the year, coffee export revenue reached USD 7.41 billion — nearly 62% higher than the same period in 2024 and more than 32% above the total export value of 2024. This marks the strongest growth among Vietnam’s key agricultural commodities and sets a new record for the country’s coffee industry.

Coffee Exports Drive Growth Across the Agriculture Sector

The Ministry of Agriculture and Environment reports that total export revenue of agricultural, forestry, and fishery products in October 2025 reached nearly USD 6 billion, bringing the 10-month total to USD 58.13 billion — up almost 13% year-on-year. Despite global economic uncertainty and slow recovery in major markets, Vietnam’s agricultural sector continues to show impressive resilience.

Within this broader picture, coffee stands out with exceptional growth. The average export price over 10 months reached USD 5,653 per ton, the highest level in many years. This result stems from rising demand in Europe, stable shipping capacity from Vietnamese exporters, and ongoing global supply shortages.

Why Coffee Exports Are Growing Rapidly?

There are four major factors driving Vietnam’s coffee export growth in 2025:

Global Supply Decline

Major producing countries such as Brazil and Indonesia suffered severe impacts from extreme weather. Many Arabica-growing regions recorded significant losses, while global Robusta output decreased due to prolonged drought. This has led importers to seek more reliable supply sources like Vietnam.

Strong Import Demand from Europe

Germany, Italy, and Spain saw a notable increase in coffee imports from Vietnam over the past 10 months. Europe, the world’s largest coffee consumption region, is tightening requirements on consistency, quality, and traceability — areas where Vietnamese suppliers have demonstrated clear strengths.

Decline in the US Dollar

The weakening USD has supported global coffee prices, improving selling prices and profit margins for Vietnamese exporters.

Improving Quality of Vietnamese Coffee

Beyond traditional Robusta, many Vietnamese companies have invested in high-quality Robusta, specialty Robusta, and deeply processed Arabica — enhancing value addition and competitiveness.

Coffee Exports Enter Peak Consumption Season

Experts note that from November to February each year is the peak consumption period in Europe and North America, suggesting that coffee exports in late 2025 will remain strong.

However, several factors may impact growth toward the end of the year:

– Expected decline in domestic supply due to the lower 2024–2025 harvest
– Rising logistics costs, especially shipping and warehousing to the US and EU
– Increasing pressure from new international regulations such as the EU’s EUDR, requiring stronger investments in traceability systems

Vietnam’s Coffee Exports: Shifting from Volume to Value

Despite outstanding growth, experts emphasize the need for Vietnam’s coffee industry to transition from volume-focused exports to value-driven exports. This can be achieved through three strategic directions:

Deep Processing and High-Value Products

Instead of relying on raw green bean exports, businesses need to focus on:
– Roasted coffee
– Instant coffee
– Specialty coffee
– Natural, honey, and anaerobic-processed coffees

Diversifying Product Structure

Vietnam has a natural advantage to develop both major global coffee varieties:
– Robusta (85% of national output)
– Arabica (high potential in Lam Dong, Son La, and Quang Tri)
Leveraging both will help Vietnam penetrate deeper into mainstream and premium markets.

Building a National Brand for Vietnamese Coffee

International consumers do not buy coffee solely for flavor — they care about origin, farmers, production methods, and sustainability. This is the key to lifting export value and establishing a distinct identity for Vietnamese coffee.

Outlook for 2026: Another Breakthrough Year?

With the strong momentum seen in the first 10 months, Vietnam’s coffee exports could exceed USD 8–8.5 billion for the full year 2025. This sets the foundation for a potential USD 10 billion milestone in 2026, especially as global demand continues to grow and Vietnam improves its value chain.
