Coffee Prices Update

Vietnam’s coffee prices plunged sharply on Sept 4, 2025, down over VND 6,200/kg, while global markets in London and New York saw slight gains.
The contrast highlights ongoing volatility, with domestic farmers under pressure even as international futures edge upward.

Domestic Coffee Prices Continue to Fall

Coffee prices today, September 4, 2025 showed a sharp decline across Vietnam’s Central Highlands. As of 07:03 this morning, farmgate prices dropped by VND 6,200 – 6,500/kg, settling between VND 114,300 – 115,000/kg.

  • Dak Nong: the steepest decline of VND 6,500/kg, now at VND 115,000/kg.

  • Dak Lak: down VND 6,300/kg to VND 115,000/kg.

  • Gia Lai: dropped VND 6,200/kg to VND 114,800/kg.

  • Lam Dong: down VND 6,200/kg to VND 114,300/kg.

According to the Vietnam Commodity Exchange (MXV), two main factors are weighing on local coffee prices: currency fluctuations and favorable weather conditions in major producing countries such as Brazil and Vietnam.

In the Central Highlands, light rains in the past week did not negatively impact crops, as cherries are already well developed and resistant to water stress. In Buon Ma Thuot, some early harvesting has begun, though volumes remain limited.

Coffee Prices on the Global Market

On international exchanges, coffee prices rebounded slightly after several volatile sessions.

  • London (Robusta): September 2025 contracts rose by +8 USD/ton (+0.17%) to 4,610 USD/ton; November 2025 gained +55 USD/ton (+1.25%) to 4,454 USD/ton; January 2026 up +54 USD/ton (+1.25%) to 4,371 USD/ton.

  • New York (Arabica): September 2025 up +3.05 cents/lb (+0.80%) to 373.65 cents/lb; December 2025 gained +3.30 cents/lb (+0.89%) to 370.35 cents/lb; March 2026 up +3.05 cents/lb (+0.85%) to 361.80 cents/lb.

Bloomberg reports that rainfall in Brazil’s Minas Gerais region has improved production prospects, pressuring prices in the short term. The weaker Brazilian real also encouraged farmers to sell more aggressively, with harvesting already 95% complete.

Still, ICE-certified inventories for both arabica and robusta continue to decline, providing some price support. Traders are also monitoring the upcoming BRICS summit, where Brazil’s president Lula is expected to address U.S. trade policy—potentially a major driver of global coffee prices.

Vietnam’s Coffee Exports Hit Record Highs

Despite falling domestic coffee prices, Vietnam’s exports remain robust. According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment:

    • August 2025 exports reached 95,000 tons, worth 429.1 million USD.

    • In the first 8 months of 2025, Vietnam exported 1.2 million tons, generating 6.42 billion USD, up 8.7% in volume and 59% in value year-on-year.

    • The average export price hit 5,580 USD/ton, a 46.4% increase compared to 2024.

    • Key markets: Germany (14.5%), Italy (7.5%), and Spain (7.4%).

Compared to the same period last year, Vietnam’s export value to Germany doubled, while exports to Italy grew 51.5% and Spain 60.8%. These figures highlight Vietnam’s strong global role, particularly in robusta coffee exports.

Outlook for Coffee Prices

Looking forward, analysts note that short-term coffee prices may remain under pressure from favorable weather in Brazil and Vietnam. However, the longer-term outlook is supported by:

  • Falling robusta and arabica inventories worldwide.

  • Rising global demand for instant, specialty, and roasted coffee.

  • Geopolitical and trade uncertainties that could push prices higher.

Experts warn that tariffs, currency swings, and climate change risks will continue to shape coffee prices in the months ahead.

Conclusion

Coffee prices today, September 4, 2025, reflect contrasting trends: a steep drop in Vietnam’s domestic market, while global futures in London and New York edged up slightly. Meanwhile, Vietnam continues to achieve record-breaking export revenues, strengthening its position as one of the world’s leading coffee exporters.

For farmers, traders, and roasters, close monitoring of weather conditions, exchange rates, and international trade policy will be key to navigating this volatile market.
