Coffee prices today continue to attract strong market attention as domestic coffee prices in Vietnam’s Central Highlands recorded their third consecutive weekly increase. While global robusta prices surged on the London exchange due to low inventories, Vietnam’s domestic market remained relatively slow as farmers continued holding stocks in anticipation of higher prices.
At the same time, the global coffee market is facing mixed signals from supply forecasts, inventory levels, and harvest developments in major producing countries such as Brazil, Vietnam, and Indonesia.
Vietnam Domestic Coffee Prices Continue to Increase
At the end of the trading week on May 25, 2026, coffee prices in Vietnam’s Central Highlands increased slightly by VND 200–300/kg compared to the previous week. Current prices range from VND 87,400 to VND 88,100/kg, marking the third consecutive week of gains.
Detailed regional prices include:
- Dak Nong: VND 88,100/kg, up VND 300/kg and currently the highest price in the region.
- Dak Lak: VND 88,000/kg after increasing by VND 300/kg.
- Gia Lai: VND 87,900/kg, also up VND 300/kg.
- Lam Dong: VND 87,400/kg, up VND 200/kg and remaining the lowest-priced province.
Although the increase was relatively modest, the continuous upward trend reflects strong holding sentiment among Vietnamese farmers. Many growers are still reluctant to sell at current price levels, expecting further price increases in the coming weeks.
Domestic Coffee Trading Remains Slow
According to Reuters, coffee trading activities in Vietnam’s Central Highlands remained sluggish throughout the week due to limited supply availability.
Traders reported that farmers continue to hold inventory rather than actively selling into the market. As a result, domestic supply remains tight despite stable demand from exporters and local buyers.
Current domestic coffee prices are still approximately 28% lower than the same period in 2025, showing that the market has not fully recovered from the sharp correction following the historic price rally earlier this year.
Many market participants believe there is still a lack of strong bullish information capable of triggering another major price surge. However, low selling pressure from farmers continues to provide support for domestic prices.
Global Coffee Prices Show Mixed Performance
Global coffee prices closed the week with mixed movements across the two major exchanges.
London Robusta Prices Increase Strongly
On the London exchange, robusta coffee futures continued rising across all delivery months:
- July 2026 contract increased by USD 45/ton (+1.38%) to USD 3,310/ton.
- September 2026 contract rose by USD 40/ton (+1.25%) to USD 3,235/ton.
- May 2026 contract climbed by USD 57/ton (+1.68%) to USD 3,456/ton.
The strong performance of robusta prices was mainly supported by low certified inventories and concerns over tight short-term supply.
New York Arabica Prices Decline Slightly
In contrast, arabica coffee futures on the New York exchange edged lower:
- July 2026 contract fell by 1.05 cents/lb (-0.38%) to 273.40 cents/lb.
- September 2026 contract decreased by 0.70 cents/lb (-0.25%) to 264.80 cents/lb.
- December 2026 contract slipped by 0.30 cents/lb (-0.12%) to 256.95 cents/lb.
This divergence between robusta and arabica reflects growing uncertainty in the global coffee market as traders carefully monitor future supply conditions.
Low Coffee Inventories Continue Supporting Robusta Prices
One of the key factors supporting robusta prices is the continued decline in certified inventories on ICE.
Recent figures show:
- Robusta inventories dropped to a two-year low of 3,631 lots before recovering slightly to 3,968 lots by the end of the week.
- Arabica inventories also fell to 449,567 bags, the lowest level in three months.
Low inventory levels continue to raise concerns among roasters and exporters, encouraging stronger buying activity to secure supply for the remainder of the year.
Vietnam’s Coffee Production Forecast to Increase
Despite current supply tightness, traders remain cautious due to expectations of higher production in Vietnam during the 2026–2027 crop year.
According to the USDA Foreign Agricultural Service, Vietnam’s green coffee production is forecast to reach 32.5 million 60-kg bags in the 2026–2027 season, an increase of 0.8 million bags compared to the previous crop year.
The expected increase is mainly driven by:
- Expanded coffee-growing areas.
- Higher investment from farmers following record coffee prices during 2024–2025.
- Improved farming conditions and productivity.
This outlook has made speculative traders more cautious, as stronger global supply could limit further upside in coffee prices.
Indonesia Begins New Robusta Harvest
While Vietnam’s market remains slow, Indonesia has started harvesting its new robusta crop.
In Lampung, increased rainfall has improved cherry development, with many coffee areas nearing full ripeness. Sumatra robusta for June shipment is currently being offered at a premium of USD 125/ton, significantly higher than the USD 100/ton premium recorded two weeks ago.
The increase is largely due to stronger purchasing activity from domestic processors and exporters.
Coffee Price Outlook for the Coming Weeks
In the short term, coffee prices are expected to remain heavily influenced by:
- ICE certified inventory levels.
- Harvest progress in Brazil and Indonesia.
- Farmer selling activity in Vietnam.
- Global production forecasts for the 2026–2027 crop year.
If robusta inventories remain low, prices could continue receiving support. However, expectations of improving supply from Vietnam and Brazil may limit the potential for another major rally.
