At the 2026 Global Robusta Coffee Awards, Vietnamese Robusta accounted for 9 of the 10 international samples that made it into the Top 20 — a remarkable result that is drawing attention from the coffee industry in Vietnam and international markets.
At the 3rd GCEF Global Robusta Coffee Competition / Global Robusta Awards 2026, a total of 50 high-quality Robusta samples participated. Vietnam submitted 19 samples, with 9 Vietnamese samples making it into the Top 20 international finalists.
Behind this 9-out-of-10 result lies more than a competition achievement. It reflects a broader shift in Vietnamese Robusta — from competing primarily on production volume toward quality, sensory value, traceability, and the growing Fine Robusta segment.
For Helena Coffee, this is also an important direction. We connect international buyers and roasters with carefully selected Vietnamese Robusta Green Coffee Beans sourced from key coffee-growing regions across Vietnam.
Vietnamese Robusta Is Being Seen in a New Light
For many years, Robusta was primarily recognized in the international market as a coffee used to add body, caffeine, intensity, and crema to espresso blends or as a key raw material for instant coffee.
But the market is changing.
With better agricultural practices, selective harvesting, controlled fermentation, and improved post-harvest processing, Robusta can develop a much broader sensory profile.
Depending on origin and processing method, high-quality Robusta can express notes such as:
- Chocolate and cocoa
- Caramel
- Nuts
- Tropical fruits
- Brown sugar and honey
- Full body and a lingering aftertaste
This means Robusta is increasingly being evaluated not simply for bitterness or caffeine content, but also for its origin, processing method, cup profile, and overall quality.
The results of the Global Robusta Awards 2026 provide an interesting example of this development. According to information reported by Báo Đắk Lắk, participating samples underwent strict selection from the 2025–2026 crop, with requirements covering harvesting, processing, green bean quality, and sensory defects. The samples were then evaluated through cupping involving a network of more than 100 evaluation points.

9 Out of 10 International Top 20 Samples Came from Vietnam
Among the 50 Robusta samples participating in this year’s competition, 27 came from China, 19 from Vietnam, and 4 from other coffee-producing countries.
Among the 10 international samples that advanced to the Top 20, 9 were from Vietnam.
Notably, companies associated with the Buon Ma Thuot Coffee Association contributed 6 of these samples. Aeroco Coffee contributed 2 samples, Coffee Cherry 2 samples, 8Ro Coffee & Roaster 1 sample, and PM Coffee 1 sample.
This result highlights the potential of Vietnamese Robusta when greater attention is given to quality throughout the production chain.
Rather than competing only on price and volume, a high-quality Robusta lot today needs to answer a much broader set of questions:
Where was the coffee grown?
What is the altitude of the growing area?
At what level of ripeness were the cherries harvested?
Which processing method was used?
How are moisture and physical defects controlled?
What is the sensory profile after roasting?
These are also the factors increasingly considered by international roasters when sourcing Vietnamese Robusta Green Coffee.
Helena Coffee and Vietnamese Robusta for International Roasters
As a company involved in Vietnamese coffee processing and export, Helena Coffee sees the development of Fine Robusta as more than a short-term trend.
Helena Coffee supplies a range of Robusta Green Coffee Beans sourced from key coffee-growing regions in Vietnam, including Đắk Lắk, Đắk Nông, Gia Lai, and Lâm Đồng.
Our product portfolio includes Robusta Honey, Robusta Natural/Unwashed, Robusta Culi, and Robusta grades classified by bean size and quality specifications.
For buyers looking for higher-quality Robusta for espresso roasting, specialty blends, or private product development, Helena Coffee also offers selected Fine Robusta lots processed through different methods.
One example is our Fine Robusta Honey Coffee Beans, sourced from Đắk Lắk, grown at approximately 850 meters above sea level, with more than 90% Screen 18 beans and moisture of up to 12.5%.
Helena Coffee also offers Robusta Natural Fermented Anaerobic – Fine Robusta, with a published CQI score of 84.5.
This reflects an important approach at Helena Coffee: Robusta is not treated as a single, uniform product.
Instead, we develop our sourcing around differences in origin, variety, bean size, processing method, and sensory characteristics.
From Origin to Export Container
For international buyers, the quality of a coffee sample is only one part of the equation.
A roaster also needs a reliable supply, consistent quality between lots, clear product specifications, and an export process that meets their purchasing and logistics requirements.
This is why Helena Coffee focuses on the entire coffee supply chain:
Origin → Processing → Quality Control → Packaging → Logistics → Export
Depending on the buyer’s requirements, coffee can be evaluated and selected according to:
Origin → Process → Screen → Moisture → Defects → Sensory Profile → Packaging → Shipping
This approach is particularly relevant for international roasters looking for stable Vietnamese Robusta to develop espresso blends, commercial blends, or their own Fine Robusta products.
Fine Robusta Is More Than a Coffee Competition
The results of the Global Robusta Awards 2026 are an important milestone, but the development of Fine Robusta in Vietnam should not be viewed through the lens of a single competition alone.
More importantly, change is taking place throughout the coffee supply chain.
Across Vietnam, producers are paying increasing attention to selective cherry harvesting, controlled fermentation, Honey and Natural processing, improved drying conditions, and traceability.
Đắk Lắk and Buon Ma Thuot continue to play an important role in this development. According to Báo Đắk Lắk, 13 of the 19 Vietnamese samples participating in the Global Robusta Awards 2026 came from companies associated with the Buon Ma Thuot Coffee Association.
This shows that the development of Fine Robusta is not limited to one company. It is increasingly becoming part of a broader effort to increase the value and recognition of Vietnamese coffee.
Helena Coffee – Connecting Vietnamese Robusta with Global Markets
For Helena Coffee, the growing interest in Fine Robusta represents an important opportunity: to bring Vietnamese Robusta with clear origins, documented specifications, and distinctive processing profiles closer to international roasters and coffee buyers.
We focus on supplying Vietnamese Green Coffee Beans, particularly Robusta from key growing regions in the Central Highlands and other coffee-producing areas across Vietnam.
Depending on the buyer’s requirements, our sourcing portfolio can range from commercial-grade Robusta to Robusta Honey, Fine Robusta, and coffees processed according to specific quality or sensory requirements.
For us, the important point is not simply to call a coffee “Fine Robusta.”
What matters is the ability to demonstrate quality through technical specifications, samples, product documentation, traceability, and consistency between lots.
This is how Helena Coffee approaches the international market: not simply by selling a bag of coffee, but by building a Vietnamese coffee supply that international roasters can understand, evaluate, and develop together with us.
Vietnamese Robusta Is Entering a New Chapter
At the 2026 Global Robusta Coffee Awards, Vietnamese Robusta accounted for 9 of the 10 international samples that made it into the Top 20. This result is a notable signal of the potential of Vietnamese Robusta in the high-quality coffee segment.
But the journey toward greater value goes beyond a competition ranking.
It starts with every coffee cherry harvested at the right stage of ripeness, every processing batch carefully controlled, every green bean specification properly evaluated, and every export lot delivered to a roaster according to agreed requirements.
For Helena Coffee, this is an important moment for Vietnamese Robusta to be recognized not simply as “Vietnamese Robusta,” but as coffee defined by its origin, process, quality, and sensory profile
