Inventories of coffee meeting New York’s minimum standards reached 400,439 bags as of Oct. 14. Somar Met’s report earlier this week showed good early-season rain promises a good yield, but higher supplies will put more pressure on arabica prices. All technical indicators show that bearish momentum is still there. The price is expected to continue falling to the 194-195 support area, or in the near term, the most negative outlook lies at the 190-191 hard support zone.
Coffee prices on both futures exchanges fluctuated slightly while the USDX index fluctuated strongly supporting derivatives trading. They have high liquidity like gold and crude oil of the island nation. However, both coffee floors did not benefit from the decrease in USD but sold off strongly due to speculative factors.
World coffee news: 22 producers win the prestigious Colombia Cup of Excellence Award
Producers of 22 micro lots of green coffee representing seven different arabica varieties, five different growing regions and four different post-harvest processing methods have won the prestigious Cup of Excellence (CoE) award in Colombia.
CoE organizers, Alliance for Coffee Excellence (ACE) and cafe Asociación Colombiana para la Excelencia del (ASECC) announced the winners at a ceremony this month ahead of the auction of the winning coffees. The tournament will take place on Tuesday, November 22.
ACE currently sells auction lot samples to members, and helps organize buying groups for high auctions. Last year’s Colombia CoE auction set the group’s international auction record for the highest average price, with 25 small lots of green beans averaging over $30 a pound.
Among the winning coffees in 2022 is a washed Gesha-like coffee from the La Bohemia farm produced by Carlos Alberto Belalcázar. Coffee took first place in the competition with a final score of 90.64, according to the CoE international jury.
