Vietnam became the most significant coffee supplier to Japan: In the first quarter, Vietnam’s coffee market share in Japan’s total imports increased to 30.3%, while Brazil’s decreased to 27.8%. This helped Vietnam become the number 1 coffee supplier to Japan.
The Import-Export Department (Ministry of Industry and Trade) said that Japan sharply increased coffee imports from Vietnam and Ethiopia in the first quarter and decreased imports from Brazil and Colombia.
Accordingly, Japan imported 35.5 thousand tons of Vietnamese coffee, equivalent to 71 million USD, up 32% in volume and 91% in value over the same period in 2021. become the most significant coffee supplier market for Japan.
Vietnam’s coffee market share in Japan’s total imports increased from 24.3% in the first quarter of 2021 to 30.3% in 2022.
In contrast, Japan reduced coffee imports from Brazil to 33,000 tons, equivalent to 103 million USD, down 23% in volume but up 13% in value compared to the first quarter of 2021.
Brazil’s share of coffee in Japan’s total imports fell from 38.6% in the first quarter of 2021 to 27.8% in the first quarter of 2022.
According to the latest data from the General Department of Customs, Vietnam’s coffee exports to Japan reached 10.5 thousand tons, equivalent to 26 million USD, up 40% in volume and 62% in the book. Value compared to April 2021.
Generally, in the first four months of the year, Vietnam’s coffee exports to Japan reached 45,000 tons, equivalent to 110 million USD, up 13% in volume and 45% in value over the same period in 2021.
The data also shows that the price of coffee exported to Japan in April reached 2,458 USD/ton, up 16% compared to April 2021.
Generally, for four months, the price of coffee exported to Japan reached $2,440/ton, up 28% over the same period in 2021.
