General 8 Ways To Make Cold Brew At Home: Brewing Cold Brew is not difficult. Soak the coffee in cold water and let it sit in the fridge for a while. And because of such a simple principle, coffee makers can vary and use many ways to make Cold Brew.
Therefore, in this article, I will try to detail the strengths and weaknesses of the most famous Cold Brew methods today. I hope this helps you to choose the most suitable method for you.
After nearly three years of playing, playing, and learning from the seniors about making Cold Brew, I want to summarize eight ways to make Cold Brew and divide it into three different levels. These will be ways that I see myself and many other brothers and sisters using.
A. Level 1: Brew Cold Brew using specialized mixing equipment
B. Level 2: Cold Brew uses available preparation tools at home.
C. Level 3: Brew Cold Brew almost without using any tools.
And now, let’s start
Level 1: Make coffee cold brew using special offering equipment
This will be the tool that most people will think and look for first because these tools were born to make Cold Brew. Its convenience specialization can help you quickly get an excellent cup of Cold Brew coffee with almost no sweat.
On the market today, the majority of Cold Brew bottles often have pretty similar designs, including:
- One container for steeping coffee.
- One filter cartridge containing coffee powder is attached to the pot.
The main benefits of these types of flasks:
- Fewer steps and easy to use: All you need to do is put the coffee in the filter, in the brewing pot, add water, and put it in the refrigerator. After that, wait for a full hour to drink coffee.
- Filter coffee easily: When making Cold Brew coffee, filtering the coffee grounds out of the water is the most tedious step. Drinking coffee is easily mixed with coffee powder by filtering or pouring carelessly. Or pour directly into the drain; it is easy to clog the drain.
Who is this brewer for:
- Office workers do not have too much time to prepare and need speed.
- Cold Brew Coffee Newbies.
Investment cost: From 200 to 700k
The price range is quite broad, from 200k for small bottles for personal needs to 600k to 700k for a large bottle with big logos from big brands.
Some notes when using:
- Please choose a Cold Brew dispenser according to your needs and usage. For personal drinking needs: You should use Cold Brew bottles with a capacity of less than 500ml. Some larger capacity bottles will sometimes not support you to brew small quantities. Because some Cold Brew brewers install the filter element relatively high, add enough water to the pot for the coffee in the filter to absorb the water.
Level 2: Make cold brew coffee using available working equipment
To make your own Cold Brew at home, you will be able to use a few of the available brewing tools:
- Using Traditional Phin
- Using a French Press
- Use the V60 kit.
Specific preparation methods using these tools will be detailed below. And now, take a look at the following:
Who is this Cold Brew Level 2 for:
- Those of you who have been enjoying making coffee at home.
- Those of you who already have the tools to make coffee at home and want to save more when switching to Cold Brew.
- Those who want to unlock more brewing potential from your existing dispensing means.
Now, let’s go into the specifics of each brewing method.
Use of traditional Philips
It would be best if you prepared the following:
- One pitcher, cup, or coffee container with a tight-fitting lid. The suggestion is a glass vase.
- Ground coffee powder.
- A traditional Vietnamese filter
- White water at room temperature.
Investment cost:
- 0 Dong if you already have a filter.
- The rest is only about 25k – 150k for a coffee filter.
Some notes when using:
With this brewing method, the coffee, when drinking, may still be sloppy because the coffee filter cannot filter out all the superfine powders.
How to make: Only about four steps can have a cup of coffee to drink full and smooth.
Step 1: Pour the coffee powder into the pot. Very often uses, 20g of coffee for one person to drink.
Step 2: Add water to the desired ratio. (Very often mixes a ratio of 1g of coffee: 10 ml of water. With 20g of coffee powder, Visty will pour 200 ml of water into it to soak.)
Step 3: Seal the jar. If there is no lid, use cling film
Put the whole pot in the refrigerator to soak for 14-20 hours, depending on the type of coffee. After that time, take the pool out and use the filter to filter the coffee grounds.
Step 4: Filter Cold Brew through the filter. Note: When removing the Cold Brew from the refrigerator, handle it gently so as not to disturb the coffee grounds. Pour gently and from above into the filter to increase the pressure.
When done, pour into a cup and enjoy.
Use French press
The French Press is a coffee maker that originated in France and Italy. This pot is used to make hot coffee. However, the principle of the bank is to soak the coffee in water to brew hot and cold coffee.
It would be best if you prepared the following:
- French Press coffee pot
- Ground coffee powder.
- White water at room temperature.
Investment cost:
- 0 Dong if you already have a brewing pot.
- The rest is only about 400-700k for a French Press pot that can mix hot and cold: both coffee and tea.
Some notes when using:
The coffee may still be sloppy when drinking with this brewing method because French Press cannot filter out all the superfine powders.
How to Brew: It only takes about three steps to get around, a fat, smooth cup of coffee.
Step 1: Put 20-30g of coffee powder into the French Press. This amount is enough for 1-2 people to drink.
Step 2: Pour 200ml – 300ml of white water at room temperature. After pouring, stir well so that the coffee absorbs the water evenly.
Put the jar in the fridge to soak for about 14 – 20 hours. But be careful not to press the button of the French Press bottle down. In addition, keep the French Press in the hip compartment to avoid collisions.
Step 3: Filter the coffee grounds. After the soaking time with the French Press, you must press the filter down. Also, if you want more apparent coffee, gently hold the pot so the coffee grounds won’t move and pour it into another cup when taking it out of the fridge.
And then pour it into a cup and enjoy.
Use V60. Full
You need to prepare the following:
- 1 Pour Over coffee funnel.
- Coffee powder.
- Coffee pot. It would be best to use the Server jar or cam with the V60 funnel.
- White water at room temperature.
- Ice.
- V60 coffee filter paper.
Investment cost:
- About 1000 VND for filter paper if you already have a V60. funnel
- The rest is only about 845k – 1200k for three essential items of the V60 hopper set, including the hopper, container, and filter paper.
Some notes when using:
With this brewing method, the coffee drink is relatively mild. Sometimes people who like the feeling of drinking whole, heavy, heavy mouth seem to find the taste weak. To adjust, you can reduce the percentage of water to brew the coffee a bit.
How to Brew: You will get a cup of Cold Brew coffee that is as clear and mild as tea with just five steps:
Step 1: Pour the coffee powder into the pot. I usually use 20g – 30g of coffee for each brew; this amount is enough for 1-2 people to drink.
Step 2: Add water to the desired ratio. (I usually add water according to the percentage of 1g coffee: 10ml water. That means with 20g of coffee powder; I will pour 200 ml of water in to soak.)
Step 3: Seal the jar. If there is no lid, use cling film
Once you’ve covered the container, please put it in the fridge to let the Cold Brew brewing process occur. I usually brew coffee for 14-20 hours. After the steeping time, take the pot out and prepare for the coffee filtration process.
Step 4: Prepare filter paper for funnel V60. Put the form in the funnel at this stage and rinse the piece with water. (Note: Hot water can coat the paper to avoid the paper smell affecting the coffee smell).
Step 5: Filter the coffee grounds through the funnel. Take the coffee container and pour it gently through the filter paper. Coffee powder coffee oil will be retained by filter paper. And the result is a pot of Cold Brew coffee that’s as mild as tea.
Note: This may take a few minutes. So, in the meantime, you can get a cup and add ice, and you’re ready to go.
And that’s how to make Cold Brew with the help of a V60 funnel. Many people now know this method. However, this V60 funnel mat can also give you another type of concoction. A brewing method can still make the coffee taste as clear and smooth as the first method but saves more time.
V60 ice drip
A cross between Cold Brew and Japanese Ice Drip. This way of mixing Visty did not come up with her own but learned from a highly creative Barista friend when working together. Thank you for letting Visty know about such a relaxed and fun brew.
Investment cost:
- About 1000 VND for a filter paper if you already have a V60 funnel. Add 5000 ice cubes.
- The rest is only about 845k – 1200k for three essential items of the V60 hopper set, including the hopper, container, and filter paper.
Some notes when using:
With this brewing method, the brewed coffee will have a slightly fuller and more robust flavor than Cold Brew. The recipe is a bit complicated, but it’s fun to try.
Mixing:
Step 1: Prepare the coffee funnel. Rinse the filter paper with hot water to remove the paper’s smell.
Step 2: Put 20g of coffee powder into the hopper. Spread the coffee evenly in the funnel.
Step 3: Wet the coffee powder. Use 40ml – 50ml of water to pour slowly to wet the coffee powder evenly.
Step 4: Put ice on the coffee powder. Use 160g – 200g of ice to arrange the coffee powder evenly.
Step 5: Wait. The ice will take about 3-4 hours to melt completely.
Step 6: Repatriate the coffee. After 3-4 hours, the ice melts. Take the coffee you get and put it in the fridge for 15 – 30 minutes for the flavor to stabilize.
Step 7: Add ice and enjoy
If not, then Visty has a subsidy program for all coffee-making tools at home so everyone can have coffee-making toys on this occasion. You can see more below.
And above that are the ways to make Cold Brew that you will have to use specialized tools or coffee makers. Besides, at a higher level, there are concoctions where you will use things unrelated to coffee. Those are the tools that the “masters” of making coffee need coffee to think lack something.
What is it? Please continue reading below.
Level 3: Cold-brew cold brew without any discovering equipment
Use a tea filter bag
This brewing method looks similar to the way you make teabags. You need to put the coffee powder in a bag, squeeze the strawberries, then soak them in a jar of water (room temperature water) incubated in the refrigerator for 14-16 hours. When complete incubation, lift the entire filter bag and throw it away.
You need to prepare the following:
- One pitcher, cup, or coffee container with a tight-fitting lid. A large glass or plastic jar will be a reasonable choice for this method.
- Ground coffee powder.
- White water at room temperature.
Investment cost:
- Currently, on a large e-commerce platform with the initials “S orange,” you can find a pack of 100 tea bags for 30-60k—a a great deal for making coffee at home.
Some notes when using:
With this brewing method, the fine coffee powder sometimes will not be filtered out; the coffee, when drinking, may be pretty smooth on the tongue.
Use baby wipes
I don’t know who used this tool first; maybe a baby daddy. However, whoever it is, it can help Cold Brew brewers filter coffee quite well.
You need to prepare the following:
- One pitcher, cup, or coffee container with a tight-fitting lid. A large glass or plastic jar will be a reasonable choice for this method.
- Ground coffee powder.
- White water at room temperature.
- One baby milk towel.
Mixing:
Step 1: Pour the coffee powder and water proportionally into the pitcher. Very often, 20g of steeped coffee is brewed with 200 ml of water.
Step 2: Close the container tightly and soak it in the refrigerator for 16-20 hours.
Step 3: Prepare the filter cup. You can use a belt to wrap the baby wipes over the cup.
Step 4: Filter the coffee grounds. Gently pour the coffee through the milk towel so that the min powder parts are not disturbed and spilled out.
Step 5: Enjoy.
Note: You can reuse that towel for the 2nd 3rd time. However, remember to wash it carefully, mainly if you use dark roasted coffee with a lot of oil. Be sure to wash it well, or you won’t want your coffee to smell stale.
Investment cost:
- One pack of this baby milk towel is presently priced from 30-60k. However, you can ask for a few if you have a baby at home.
Some notes when using:
With this brewing method, the fine coffee powder sometimes will not be filtered out; the coffee, when drinking, may be pretty smooth on the tongue.
